On Day 2 of 5 Days of Library we’re going to look at the study space available to you in the libraries. There are a range of spaces to meet different needs and preferences. You don’t need to book a place to study in the library – just come in and find an empty seat! - but see our webpage Book a library study space or PC space to find out about the different places you can study in the library: 

St David’s Park students can use the PC spaces in the library there. You can also use the common room and other spaces around the building. 

 We know how important it is to have somewhere pleasant to work so we’ve been making improvements to our study spaces. Here are a few of the places you’ll find in our libraries!

Books are often the first thing people think about when they think about the library so on Day 1 of 5 Days of Library we’re going to make sure you can find the books you need! 

Finding a Book via your Reading List  

Your lecturers will often recommend textbooks and other reading for your modules. Start here when you want to find out more about a topic. You can find a module’s reading list on Canvas; navigate to the relevant module and select ‘Reading List’ on the left of the screen. The reading list is integrated with iFind, the library catalogue, so you’ll get up to date information on the availability of books on the shelves and links to access online resources like ebooks and journal articles.  

Finding a Book via iFind  

Your reading list is a great place to start, but you will also be expected to find your own reading for your assignments. You can use the library catalogue, iFind for that! Access iFind at ifind.swansea.ac.uk or via the widget in the MySwansea app. You can search for a specific title or for books on a particular topic. Why not have a go now? Follow the link to iFind and do a search for study skills. There are a lot of materials in the catalogue, but you can narrow your results using the filter options on the left of the results page. 

Ebooks 

Lots of our books are available as ebooks to make it easier for you to access them. When you click on a title in iFind, you’ll see a link to ‘View Online’ if it’s available as an ebook. Just click the link to start reading!  

Finding a Book on the Shelves  

Once you’ve found what you want on iFind, you’ll need to find the book in the library. So how do you do that? Well, first you’ll need to check which of Swansea University’s libraries have copies of the book! You’ll find that information on iFind – click the title of the book and scroll down to Locations. Next you’ll need to know the call number– you’ll find that on iFind too, and it will look something like this:  

 
 
 
All of our books have call numbers on their spines and are shelved in order. When you’re looking for a call number, find the letters first and then look for the numbers. At Bay Library and St David’s Park Library, everything is on one floor – which means you can follow the shelves from A through to Z relatively simply. At Singleton Park Library there are books on three different floors and five different wings, which can be more challenging, especially when you’re new! If you can’t find your way around, a member of staff will be happy to point you in the right direction or find it themselves if you’re really stuck. You’ll soon get to know where your books are!

Defnyddio eich rhestr ddarllen i ddod o hyd i lyfr  

Bydd eich darlithwyr yn aml yn argymell gwerslyfrau a deunyddiau darllen eraill ar gyfer eich modiwlau. Dechreuwch yma pan fyddwch chi eisiau rhagor o wybodaeth am bwnc. Gallwch ddod o hyd i restr ddarllen modiwl ar Canvas; Ewch i'r modiwl perthnasol a dewiswch 'Rhestr Ddarllen' ar ochr chwith y sgrîn. Mae'r rhestr ddarllen hon wedi'i hintegreiddio ag iFind, catalog y llyfrgell, felly byddwch yn derbyn yr wybodaeth ddiweddaraf am argaeledd llyfrau ar y silffoedd a dolenni i gael mynediad at adnoddau ar-lein megis e-lyfrau ac erthyglau mewn cyfnodolion.  

Defnyddio iFind i ddod o hyd i lyfr  

Mae eich rhestr ddarllen yn fan gwych i ddechrau, ond bydd disgwyl i chi hefyd ddod o hyd i'ch deunydd darllen eich hun ar gyfer eich aseiniadau. Gallwch ddefnyddio catalog y llyfrgell, iFind i wneud hynny! Gallwch gael mynediad at iFind yn ifind.abertawe.ac.uk neu drwy'r eicon yn Ap FyAbertawe. Gallwch chwilio am deitl penodol neu am lyfrau ar bwnc penodol. Beth am roi cynnig arni nawr? Dilynwch y ddolen i iFind a gwnewch chwiliad am sgiliau astudio. Mae llawer o ddeunydd yn y catalog, ond gallwch gyfyngu'ch canlyniadau gan ddefnyddio'r dewisiadau hidlo ar ochr chwith y dudalen canlyniadau. 

eLyfrau  

Mae llawer o'n llyfrau ar gael fel eLyfrau er mwyn ei wneud yn haws i chi gael mynediad atynt. Pan fyddwch yn clicio ar deitl ar iFind, byddwch chi'n gweld dolen i ddarllen y llyfr ar-lein os ydyw ar gael fel eLyfr. Cliciwch ar y ddolen i ddechrau darllen! 

Dod o hyd i lyfr ar silffoedd y llyfrgell  

Unwaith eich bod wedi dod o hyd i'r hyn sydd ei angen arnoch ar iFind, bydd angen i chi ddod o hyd i'r llyfr yn y llyfrgell. Felly sut rydych chi'n gwneud hynny? Yn gyntaf, bydd angen i chi wirio pa un o Lyfrgelloedd Prifysgol Abertawe sydd â chopïau o'r llyfr! Gallwch ddod o hyd i'r wybodaeth honno ar iFind - cliciwch deitl y llyfr a sgrolio i lawr i ‘Lleoliadau’. Nesaf, bydd angen i chi wybod y rhif galw - byddwch yn dod o hyd i hwn ar iFind hefyd, a bydd yn edrych yn debyg i hyn:  

 
 
   
Mae gan bob un o'n llyfrau rifau galw ar eu meingefnau ac maent yn cael eu rhoi ar y silffoedd mewn trefn. Wrth chwilio am rif galw, dewch o hyd i'r llythrennau yn gyntaf yna chwiliwch am y rhifau. Yn Llyfrgell y Bae a Llyfrgell Parc Dewi Sant, mae popeth ar un llawr - sy'n golygu y gallwch ddilyn y silffoedd o A hyd at Z yn eithaf hawdd. Yn Llyfrgell Parc Singleton, mae llyfrau ar dri llawr gwahanol, ac mewn pum adain wahanol, sy’n gallu bod yn fwy heriol, yn enwedig i fyfyrwyr newydd! Os nad ydych yn gallu dod o hyd i’ch ffordd, bydd aelod o’r staff yn hapus i'ch rhoi ar y trywydd iawn neu ddod o hyd i'r llyfr ei hun os ydych ar goll yn llwyr. Byddwch yn dod i wybod lle mae eich llyfrau yn fuan iawn!
