The University is planning return to campuses and reopening of services with the health and safety of students and staff as its top priority. In accordance with guidance from Welsh Government and University Management, Library staff have been working closely with Health and Safety and Estates colleagues to plan a safe, phased return which enables social distancing of 2 metres, sanitiser points and provision of services with minimal contact.
When can you take books out?
Our plan is to reopen libraries in a phased approach starting with a “click and collect” service at Singleton and Bay Libraries from mid-July and at Saint David’s Park Library from the end of July. This will enable Library users to place a request in iFind as usual and, following notification by email of availability, visit the Library and use self-issue to take the books out. There will be a one-way system operating with separate entrance and exit and a queueing system facilitating 2m separation of Library users. Opening hours will be limited to start and further information and updates on the availability of this service will be available on our webpages.
When will you be able to study in the Library?
Following assessment of the “click and collect” service and completion of plans to assess capacity, ventilation, cleaning regimes and options for users to circulate around the buildings, we are hoping to make some study spaces available in August. Again, please look for updates on our webpages.
What if you need resources in the meantime?
Library staff are making online resources available wherever possible. If there are particular books or journal articles that you need to access which are not currently available electronically, please contact us at customerservice@swansea.ac.uk, https://libguides.swansea.ac.uk/Document-Supply, or get in touch with your subject librarians at https://libguides.swansea.ac.uk
We understand the importance of Library Services to students and we are working hard to ensure that buildings will be accessible again as soon as possible and, most importantly, to ensure that Library users and staff remain healthy and safe.
