SU Libraries wish you all the best of luck on your recent assessments.

To those of you who are finishing your studies and leaving Swansea, good luck!

Don’t forget to return any items you have out on loan to the library and to clear any fines from your account. Your IT account will be disabled after your course ends. Please advise contacts of an alternative email address and secure any personal data you may require in the future. Please have a look at the account closure checklist.

For those of you returning in September, please be aware:

  • If you have books or journals out on loan over the summer, they will continue to auto-renew and you don’t need to worry about them unless another user requests them. If this happens you will receive an email advising you to return the item(s) within 14 days. If you keep items over the summer, please be sure to check your University email account regularly.

  • Please return any outstanding laptop loans promptly to the self-service locker at the Library where you borrowed them. These will not auto-renew and fines are £10.00 per day.

  • If you have concerns about returning any items, please let the Customer Service team know right away. You can post books back to us, if necessary. Please look at the Library webpages for contact details and postal addresses.

If you’re using SU Libraries over the Summer:

  • From 1st June until 29th August, summer opening hours at Singleton Park and Bay Libraries will be 8am to midnight however Singleton Park Library will close at 6pm on Thursday, 2nd June for the Summer Ball.

  • You’ll find up to date information on opening times of all our libraries on our webpages.

  • Two-week self-service laptop loans will continue to be available from Bay and Singleton Park Libraries. These are non-renewable and must be returned to the locker where they were borrowed by the due date.

  • You will be able to consult Subject Librarians via online chat or in one-to-one appointments. Full details are in Libguides.

If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with the Customer Service Team.

We will be doing some work to improve the building and study areas in the Singleton Park Library this summer and would like to apologise in advance for any disruption and also to thank you for your patience and understanding while we carry out improvements.

We welcome your feedback and suggestions so we can make improvements and would be grateful if you would get in touch with Customer Services to share them.

Global Accessibility Awareness Day logo

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). It’s a day to raise awareness of digital inclusion and the barriers faced by many disabled people. There are simple changes we can all make to things more accessible for everyone. Read Sofie O’Shea’s post on the Library Document Supply Services’ review of their webpages to make them more accessible. Are there changes you could make to be more inclusive?  Here are a few examples:

  • Add alt text to describe any images you use (this includes photos and GIFs shared on social media)
  • Ensure your videos have accurate captions
  • Make your text legible, e.g. for documents use a minimum 12 point type face and a sans-serif font such as Arial; use text colours that have a high contrast to the background
  • Use the Accessibility Checker to check your Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook files for accessibility issues so you can make improvements

Swansea University staff can check the guidance and advice collated by Swansea Academy for Inclusivity and Learner Support (SAILS) to ensure learning material is accessible to more people.

Logo Diwrnod Ymwybyddiaeth Hygyrchedd Byd-eang

Mae heddiw yn Ddiwrnod Ymwybyddiaeth Hygyrchedd Byd-eang (GAAD). Mae’n ddiwrnod i gynyddu ymwybyddiaeth am gynhwysiant digidol a’r rhwystrau y mae nifer o bobl anabl yn eu hwynebu. Trwy newidiadau syml, gallwn ni wneud pethau yn fwy hygyrch i bawb. Darllenwch bostiad Sofie O’Shea ar adolygiad Gwasanaethau Cyflenwi Dogfennau’r Llyfrgell o’u tudalennau gwe er mwyn eu gwneud yn fwy hygyrch. Allech chi wneud newidiadau er mwyn bod yn fwy cynhwysol? Dyma rai enghreifftiau:

  • Ychwanegwch destun amgen i ddisgrifio delweddau rydych chi’n eu defnyddio (mae hyn yn cynnwys ffotograffau a ffeiliau GIF a rennir ar gyfryngau cymdeithasol)
  • Sicrhewch fod capsiynau eich fideos yn gywir
  • Sicrhewch fod eich testun yn ddarllenadwy e.e. defnyddiwch o leiaf faint testun12 pwynt a ffont sans-serif megis Arial; defnyddiwch liwiau testun sy’n gwrthgyferbynnu’n dda â’r cefndir
  • Defnyddiwch Accessibility Checker i wirio eich ffeiliau Word, PowerPoint, Excel ac Outlook rhag ofn bod materion hygyrchedd y gallech chi eu gwella

Gall staff Prifysgol Abertawe wirio’r arweiniad a’r cyngor a gasglwyd gan Academi Cynwysoldeb a Llwyddiant Dysgwyr Abertawe (SAILS) i sicrhau bod deunydd dysgu yn hygyrch i ragor o bobl.
