What is OSCOLA referencing?
OSCOLA was devised by Oxford University Law School in 2000 and is now used by law libraries and legal publishers throughout the world.
How does the OSCOLA style of referencing work?
- OSCOLA is a footnote style: all citations appear as footnotes at the bottom of the page.
- Each reference is given a number when it first appears in the text.
- The number given becomes the unique identifier for that reference.
- The reference number is written in superscript1.
- The bibliography lists in alphabetical order all of the secondary sources cited in the assignment, and appears after the text and any appendices.
Where can I find information about OSCOLA referencing?
- Through an online OSCOLA Referencing guide which has lots of helpful examples.
- In your subject’s Library guide under the Referencing tab
- In the official OSCOLA guide
- In the printable OSCOLA guide (brief) or OSCOLA guide (Full)
