Keeping up to date - Current Awareness

We have access to a number of electronic Current Awareness Services to help you keep up to date with the latest trends in your area of criminology.

The Lexis Plus UK allows you to set up email alerts for new cases, legislation and articles.

  • Click on 'Alerts' (the bell icon) in the top right hand corner.
  • Then click on 'Create Alert' and go through the steps to choose the practice area, topic, jurisdiction and delivery options.
  • Save the alert.

Both the Lexis Plus UK and Westlaw UK can be used to keyword search news updates. For both:

  • Go to 'Current Awareness'
  • and search by keyword

Westlaw UK current awareness can also be browsed by subject.

JournalTOCs is a Current Awareness Service (CAS) where you can discover the newest papers coming directly from the publishers as soon as they have been published online.  Individual sign up is free. There are 1189 Law and Criminology Journal title listings.

Database alerts - some databases such as ASSIA, ScienceDirect and Web of Science allow you to set up e-mail alerts so that when new items match your search terms you will receive a message. Some databases also allow you to restrict a search to recent material so that you can check if anything new has been added.

Thesis and Dissertations

The Library holds all Swansea University theses at doctorate level and some masters. Theses for most subjects are held in a closed store in the Singleton Park Library which is accessible to library staff only. They must be used in the library. Use i-Find to find out the author and title of the theses you want to look at and then go to the library desk and they will get it for you. For further information on theses visit our Library guide.
