Referencing Styles

There are two referencing styles supported by the Library for the College of Engineering. Please use the drop down menu from the Referencing tab for guidance on either APA 6th Swansea or the Vancouver style of referencing.

Separate online guides are available for each of these reference styles

EndNote will:

  • store and manage references in your own database so you don't lose track of them.
  • work with Word to format your references in a wide range of styles.
  • import references from many online databases such as Web of Science without you having to type them in.

Mendeley

Mendeley allows you to collect, manage, share and use references you find in the course of your research. It can be used with Word to add citations and produce a reference list within a document. Mendeley has a web-based element that can be used with any Internet browser; however you need to use the desktop element to use the Citation PlugIn with Word. Mendeley is freely available.  Mendeley will:

  • share references with other Mendeley users
  • store full text PDFs within yur library and allow annotation
  • create bibliographies and 'cite while you write' (separate free plug-in required - not compatable with Word 365).
