The university has a range of health and welfare support services, but did you know there’s also some self-help support available in the library? Whether you’re dealing with issues from your past, current difficulties, or just wondering how to cook a meal on your student budget, the library has some books to help! The Wellbeing Collection includes titles on managing stress, anxiety, ADHD, autism, OCD, eating disorders, insomnia, coping with abuse and more. There are also books on handling your finances and a selection of student cookbooks.

The Wellbeing Collection is available to all students and staff. You can find the books in the Cwtsh on the Level 4 mezzanine in Singleton Park Library and in the Wellbeing Corner near the group study pod in Bay Library. There are also e-books available for some titles.

The full list of titles in the Wellbeing Collection is available online. You can:

  • Browse by category
  • Check location and availability of a book by clicking on the title
  • Use the Request function to collect a book from a different Swansea University library
  • Read an ebook by clicking on the link to Full Text

There’s good evidence that bibliotherapy – using books for self-help therapy – can be very effective, so please take a look at the collection if you think you may be affected by any of the issues above.

Mae gan y Brifysgol ystod o wasanaethau cymorth iechyd a lles, ond a wyddech fod cefnogaeth hunangymorth ar gael yn y llyfrgell hefyd? P'un a ydych yn ymdrin â materion o'ch gorffennol, anawsterau presennol, neu'n pendroni ynghylch sut i goginio pryd o fwyd ar eich cyllideb myfyriwr, mae gan y llyfrgell lyfrau i'ch helpu! Mae'r Casgliad Lles yn cynnwys teitlau ar reoli straen, gorbryder, ADHD, awtistiaeth, anhwylder obsesiynol cymhellol, anhwylderau bwyta, diffyg cwsg, ymdopi â chamdriniaeth a mwy. Hefyd mae llyfrau ar reoli'ch arian a detholiad o lyfrau coginio i fyfyrwyr.

Mae'r Casgliad Lles ar gael i bob myfyriwr ac aelod o staff. Gallwch ddod o hyd i'r llyfrau yn y Cwtsh ar mezzanine Lefel 4 Llyfrgell Parc Singleton a'r Gornel Les gerllaw'r pod astudio grŵp yn Llyfrgell y Bae. Hefyd, mae fersiynau e-lyfr ar gael i rai ohonynt.

Mae rhestr lawn o deitlau'r Casgliad Lles ar gael ar-lein. Gallwch:

  • bori yn ôl categori
  • gwirio lleoliad y llyfr ac os yw ar gael drwy glicio ar y teitl
  • defnyddio'r dull Gwneud Cais i gasglu llyfr o lyfrgell wahanol ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe
  • darllen e-lyfr drwy glicio ar y ddolen i weld y Testun Llawn

Mae tystiolaeth dda bod bibliotherapi - defnyddio llyfrau ar gyfer therapi hunangymorth - yn gallu bod yn effeithiol iawn, felly edrychwch ar y casgliad os credwch eich bod wedi'ch effeithio gan unrhyw faterion a nodir uchod.

The end of term is nearly here! Whilst some of you will be studying through the Christmas vacation, make sure you find time to relax too. Picking up a book can be a great way to do that. We’ve asked Inês Teixeira-Dias, the Societies and Services Officer in the Students’ Union, to tell us how the SU Officers have been sharing their love of reading since they took up their posts:

The team of Full Time Officers within the Students’ Union have always been keen readers. Since having started work in the Office, we have taken the initiative to start an Office Bookshelf, on which our proudest and most cherished reads sit during the day, ready to be borrowed by one of us for a rainy day (or a sunny one on the beach!). No unwanted books: only our favourites. Old and tattered books often wind their way into charity shops when people no longer take pleasure in reading them, however there’s value in sharing what you most enjoy. From autobiographies to popular science books, such as ‘Why We Sleep,’ to contemporary romances such as ‘Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine’ and various books about modern politics, our wide range of reads have encouraged us to read out of our usual genres and into the worlds of our closest colleagues. You don’t have to put a book back in place of any one you take, but to protect the books going missing, whoever assumes the pleasure of wanting to read one of the books is required to date and sign the book out. Overall, the system has given us great insight into areas of the world we wouldn’t have previously considered to engage with and has given a pleasant topic of conversation between our Officers to discuss current affairs and concepts with each other! The collection is growing and we’re excited to see how it builds over the course of the year.

Mae diwedd y tymor yn agosáu! Er y bydd rhai ohonoch yn dal i astudio dros wyliau’r Nadolig, gwnewch yn siwr eich bod yn ymlacio hefyd. Mae codi llyfr yn ffordd wych o wneud hynny. Rydym wedi gofyn i Inês Teixeira-Dias, Swyddog Cymdeithasau a Gwasanaethau Undeb y Myfyrwyr, i ddweud wrthym sut mae Swyddogion UM wedi bod yn rhannu eu cariad at ddarllen ers iddynt ddechrau yn eu gwaith:

Mae'r tîm o Swyddogion Llawn amser yn Undeb y Myfyrwyr erioed wedi bod yn ddarllenwyr brwd. Ers dechrau gweithio yn y Swyddfa, rydym wedi sefydlu silff lyfrau’r swyddfa, lle mae ein hoff lyfrau a’r rhai gorau'n aros yn barod i gael eu benthyca gan un ohonom ar ddiwrnod o law (neu ddiwrnod o haul ar y traeth!). Dim llyfrau diesiau: dim ond ein hoff lyfrau. Mae hen lyfrau racsiog yn aml yn gorffen eu dyddiau mewn siopau elusennol pan na fydd pobl yn mwynhau eu darllen mwyach. Fodd bynnag, mae’n werth rhannu'r hyn rydych chi'n ei fwynhau fwyaf. O hunangofiannau i lyfrau gwyddoniaeth poblogaidd, megis 'Why We Sleep,' i lyfrau rhamantus cyfoes megis ‘Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine’ a llyfrau amrywiol am wleidyddiaeth fodern, mae ein hamrywiaeth eang o lyfrau wedi ein hannog i ddarllen y tu hwnt i'n genres arferol a mentro i fydoedd ein cydweithwyr agos. Does dim rhaid i chi roi llyfr yn lle'r un rydych chi'n ei gymryd, ond i atal llyfrau rhag mynd ar goll, gofynnir i bwy bynnag sy'n dymuno cael y pleser o ddarllen un ohonynt ddyddio a llofnodi'r llyfr benthyg. Ar y cyfan, mae'r system wedi rhoi dealltwriaeth wych i ni am feysydd na fyddem ni fel arall wedi ystyried ymddiddori ynddynt ac mae wedi bod yn bwnc trafod braf ymhlith ein Swyddogion sydd wedi gallu trafod materion a chysyniadau cyfoes â'i gilydd! Mae'r casgliad yn tyfu ac rydym yn llawn cyffro i weld sut y bydd yn ehangu dros y flwyddyn nesaf.

SU Libraries wish you a merry Christmas and happy New Year.

We’d just like to make you aware of loan arrangements before you leave for the holidays.

  • If you have books or journals out on loan over the holiday period, they will continue to auto-renew and you don’t need to worry about them unless another library user requests them. Normal rules will apply to one-night loans. They will not auto-renew.

  • Please return any outstanding laptop loans promptly. These will not auto-renew and fines are £10.00 per day.

  • If another Library user requests an item you have out, you will receive an email to your student account to let you know. Please return it by the date in the email. If you have items on loan, don’t forget to check your account regularly.

  • Remember that overdue fines of £2.00 per day will be applied to recalled items not returned by the due date. If you have concerns about returning a recalled item on time, please let the ISS Customer Service team know right away. You can post books back to us, if necessary. Please look at the Library webpages for contact details and postal addresses.

Every little helps…

Good news! From 1st January 2020 we’re reducing the charge for reprinting ID/Library cards from £5.00 to £4.00. Students’ Union shared student concerns with us about anxiety caused by money worries and we agreed this is one way we could help a little.

If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with the ISS Customer Service Team. Have a very happy holiday!

We hope you have enjoyed the 5 Days of Twitter as much as we enjoyed running it! It was something of an experiment for us running this kind of online, bitesize training so we would really appreciate it if you could complete our evaluation survey:

http://swansea-uk.libsurveys.com/su5dot

We would like to hear from everyone, whether you participated or completed the course or not – your views will help us immensely in planning future training (what should we do next? Let us know!)

http://swansea-uk.libsurveys.com/su5dotCym

Hoffem glywed gan bawb, does dim ots os na wnaethoch gymryd rhan neu gwblhau'r cwrs - bydd eich sylwadau o gymorth mawr wrth i ni gynllunio hyfforddiant yn y dyfodol (beth dylem ei wneud nesaf? Rhowch wybod i ni!)

Well, that’s the end of the Five Days of Twitter! I hope you enjoyed it, and that you are now tweeting confidently and productively if you were a beginner, or that you reviewed your practice and picked up a few hints and tips if you’d tweeted before. It was great to see so many people with experience of Twitter offering help and advice too- a fantastic demonstration of how Twitter can be a powerful learning network for professional development!

If you’re still catching up, don’t worry! The materials will remain online here for you to work through in your own time, and hopefully those who have already completed the course will be around on Twitter to offer support, advice and company!

So where will you go from here? Have you decided that Twitter isn’t for you (and at least now you can make that decision on an informed basis!), or will you keep tweeting and taking part in the discussions and professional communities around Swansea University, your own subject area, and higher education on Twitter? For myself, I really think it’s a great tool for my own CPD and for sharing practice and learning from others, and it’s been great to make so many new contacts.

If you need more help with using Twitter, the site’s own support pages are a good introduction to the various things it can do. Or if you google your question or search on YouTube for video tutorials, you’ll also find that there are a host of resources that people have made and uploaded to help others. But perhaps best of all, your Twitter network itself is a great place to ask questions and find people who can answer them, as we’ve found on this course!

Evaluation

We’ll shortly be sending round an evaluation survey, to find out what you thought of 5 Days of Twitter. We’d really welcome your feedback, so we can improve the programme and perhaps run future courses like this on other aspects of social media!

The Future

Now you’ve learned to use Twitter as part of the #SU5DoT community, it would be great if we can sustain the conversations and the community around social media and academia at Swansea University.

Do message us to ask questions, engage in conversations or draw our attention to anything you think we should know about!

We’ll still be around on Twitter as @philippaprice and @karendewick1 of course, tweeting about a wide range of issues to do with Higher Education.

We look forward to interacting with you in future – do keep in touch!

Finally, if you fancied running 5 Days of Twitter within your own department or project, information and materials for the course are on Helen Webster’s website: http://10daysoftwitter.wordpress.com/

Wel, dyna ddiwedd Pum Niwrnod o Twitter! Gobeithio eich bod wedi mwynhau'r profiad a'ch bod bellach yn trydar yn hyderus ac yn gynhyrchiol os oeddech chi'n ddechreuwr, neu eich bod wedi adolygu'ch ymarfer ac wedi dysgu ychydig o bethau newydd os oeddech chi'n hen law ar Twitter. Roedd yn hyfryd gweld cynifer o drydarwyr profiadol yn cynnig cymorth a chyngor hefyd - arddangosiad gwych o sut gall Twitter fod yn rhwydwaith dysgu pwerus ar gyfer datblygiad proffesiynol!

Os ydych yn dal i fyny o hyd, peidiwch â phoeni! Bydd y deunyddiau ar gael ar-lein i chi weithio drwyddynt yn eich amser eich hun a, gobeithio, bydd y rhai sydd eisoes wedi cwblhau'r cwrs wrth law ar Twitter i gynnig cymorth, cyngor a chwmni!

Felly, ble ewch chi o fan hyn? Ydych chi wedi penderfynu nad yw Twitter at eich dant chi (o leiaf gallwch benderfynu ar sail gwybodaeth nawr!) neu a fyddwch chi'n parhau i drydar a chymryd rhan yn y trafodaethau a'r cymunedau proffesiynol ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe, yn eich maes pwnc penodol ac ym maes addysg uwch ar Twitter? Yn bersonol, dwi'n meddwl ei fod yn offeryn rhagorol ar gyfer DPP ac i rannu ymarfer a dysgu gan eraill, ac mae wedi bod yn wych gwneud cynifer o gysylltiadau newydd.

Os oes angen rhagor o gymorth arnoch i ddefnyddio Twitter, mae tudalennau cymorth y safle ei hun yn gyflwyniad da i'r amrywiaeth o bethau mae'n gallu eu gwneud. Neu os ydych yn gwglo'ch cwestiynau neu'n chwilio ar YouTube am diwtorialau fideo, byddwch hefyd yn dod ar draws llwyth o adnoddau mae pobl wedi eu creu a'u lanlwytho i helpu eraill. Ond efallai y peth gorau am eich rhwydwaith Twitter yw ei fod yn lle heb ei ail i ofyn cwestiynau a dod o hyd i bobl sy'n gallu eu hateb, fel rydym wedi dysgu ar y cwrs hwn!

Gwerthusiad

Maes o law byddwn yn anfon arolwg gwerthuso i glywed eich barn am 5 Niwrnod o Twitter. Bydd eich adborth yn ein helpu i wella'r rhaglen ac efallai cynnal cyrsiau tebyg yn y dyfodol ar agweddau eraill ar y cyfryngau cymdeithasol!

Y Dyfodol

Nawr eich bod wedi dysgu defnyddio Twitter fel rhan o gymuned #SU5DoT, byddai'n wych pe gallem gadw'r sgyrsiau a'r gymuned yn y cyfryngau cymdeithasol a'r byd academaidd ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe i fynd.

Anfonwch negeseuon atom i ofyn cwestiynau, cymerwch ran yn ein sgyrsiau neu tynnwch ein sylw at bethau rydych yn meddwl y dylem wybod amdanynt!

Byddwn yn dal i fod ar gael ar Twitter fel @philippaprice ac @karendewick1 ac, wrth gwrs, yn trydar am amrywiaeth eang o faterion ym maes addysg uwch.

Edrychwn ymlaen at ryngweithio â chi yn y dyfodol - cadwch mewn cysylltiad!

Yn olaf, os hoffech gynnal cwrs 5 Niwrnod o Twitter yn eich adran neu eich prosiect eich hun, mae gwybodaeth a deunyddiau ar gyfer y cwrs ar gael ar wefan Helen Webster: http://10daysoftwitter.wordpress.com/
