Journals articles with three, four or five authors

Below you will find guidance and examples of how to set out a reference to a journal article with three, four or five authors in the body of your work and in the reference list at the end.

In text citations

If there are three, four or five authors of a work all authors should be cited the first time. Subsequently use et al. after the first author's surname.

First citation:
Ashely, Kibbe and Thornton (2014) state that...
OR
...(Ashley, Kibbe, & Thornton, 2014).

Subsequent citations:
Ashley et al. (2014) state that...
OR
...(Ashley et al., 2014).

Reference list

Last name, Initial(s)., & last name, initial(s). (Year). Article title. Journal title in italics, Volume number in italics(issue or part number if needed), page numbers.

Example:
Ashley, C., Kibbe, S., & Thornton, S. (2014). Experiential learning in second Life: A simulation in 
retail management. Atlantic

            Marketing Journal, 3(2), 94-113.
