Translation

The APA style guide does not give us specific guidelines on setting out references to translated works.  However, Purdue University gives the advice below.

In text citations

Laplace (1951) claims that...

OR

…(Laplace, 1951).

Reference list

Last name, Initial(s). (Year). Title (edition.).  (Initial/s, last name, Trans.).  Place:

            Publisher. (Original work published yyyy).

Example:
Laplace, P. S. (1951). A philosophical essay on probabilities. (F. W. Truscott & F.
 F. L. Emory, Trans.).
                 New York: Dover. (Original work published 1814).

 

Note: When you cite a republished work, like the one above, in your text it should appear with both dates: Laplace (1814/1951).
